Will I be able to get off the cruise ship in time to make the shuttle departure time?
Yes, as long as you do not greatly delay your disembarkation from the ship. Ships arriving in Seward typically begin disembarking around 6:30 - 7:00 am and ships arriving in Whittier begin around 7:00 am. This gives approximately 1.5 - 2 hours for passengers to disembark, claim their luggage, and check in with the driver. The guide/driver has a passenger list and will delay departure as long as he can if he has not accounted for all passengers, and he will attempt to contact you by cell phone if you have provided one. If you are running late for some reason, be sure to contact us so that we can inform the driver that you are present. On Whittier transfers it is especially important to try to be punctual since the driver needs to make the 9:00 tunnel opening out of Whittier.
What happens if there is a mechanical problem with the bus on the way to the ship?
We have a spare shuttle that can be dispatched from Anchorage in the case of a mechanical failure. If the breakdown occurred too far away from Anchorage to get to the passengers and make it to the ship on time, we have arrangements with the cruise terminal liaisons to have our passengers picked up by the buses operated by the cruise line. We are proud to say that in almost 10 years of operation none of our passengers have missed the ship.

I don't know which hotel I'll be staying at yet. Can I still make a reservation?
Yes, you can go ahead an make your reservation and just put "unknown" in the "Pick-up/Drop-off" field. That way you secure your spot before the date fills up. After you have determined your exact pick-up or drop-off location, be sure to tell us. If we haven't heard from you within about a week of your trip, we will try to contact you.
Is there anything to eat on the shuttle?
Food is not offered on the shuttle, but there is a snack bar at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center with food available for purchase. They have hamburgers, hot dogs, reindeer dogs, soup, popcorn, pretzels, chips, candy bars, sandwiches, pastries, sodas, energy drinks, coffee, hot chocolate, water, etc. There is also a lunch provided on our Full Day Tours. You may bring your own food on the shuttle.
Are there bathrooms available?
There are bathrooms at the cruise terminals, at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and at the Canyon Creek Overlook stop (Seward transfers). Also, the driver can always make an unscheduled stop if there is an urgent need.
Will I see wild animals along the trip?
They will certainly be seen at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. It is also very likely to see some animals along the highway. The most common are eagles, Dall sheep (mountain sheep), and beluga whales. Eagles are more common in May and early June. Beluga whales are most often seen in August and September. There is also a chance of seeing moose and a small chance of seeing black bears. When wildlife is spotted, the driver will attempt to pull over and allow passengers a chance to get out for pictures if in a place he/she can safely do so.
Is it customary to tip the driver?
Yes, your driver is very appreciative of tips. 10% to 20% is customary.
